This is our first year to grow artichokes. They are really just a giant thistle. Did you know?
Our Aunt Dorothy steamed them and served them with hot melted butter, so I thought I'd give it a try. I read that I must clip the sharp and bristly tips.
This is how they look after clipping.
I also read that I should steam them upside down for 40 minutes. Before I did this, I soaked them in warm salty water and lots of bugs floated to the top. Thought I'd mention this, in case you don't like hot steamed bugs. I know I don't. Anyway, bugs got rinsed down the drain before steaming.
After steaming, take individual leaves, dip in warm, salty and peppery butter. Yum!! Enjoy!
